l am not sure what the measurement parameters would be but l can tell u that vertical integration in the insurance industry is going to vary by two very important factors. First, will be the type of insurance the company is selling (i.e. life & health vs property & casualty) & second will be how the company is organized.

If a company is organized with captive agents who sell its products exclusively u would say the vertical integration is higher than the company that sells through independent agents who can channel sales to the company of their choice. State Farm would be an example of a captive agent company selling both lines of insurance. The Hartford would be an example of a company that works with an independent sales force.

On the claims side companies have varying degrees of influence on body shops or restoration contractors but l know of no company that owns contractors or body shops to handle their claims exclusively. So there is no vertical integration.
